I’ve been immersed in board games for over two decades, starting with classics like Magic: The Gathering, Carcassonne, and Settlers of Catan. I’ve always relished the strategic choices they offer—deciding between 3 wood or 1 stone, spells or creatures, sheep or aqueducts.
What’s even luckier is that I still get to enjoy these games regularly with my friends. We usually lean towards heavier euro games, but we do make exceptions. My current favorites, in alphabetical order, include Ark Nova, Brass Birmingham, Cascadia, Everdell, Magic: The Gathering, Pandemic Legacy: Season 1, Scythe, and Wingspan. Though I must confess, I’ve been enjoying simpler games like CABO and Sea Salt and Paper lately.
I’ve always had a soft spot for computer games too, even though I haven’t actively played them for a while. My top picks may be outdated, but here they are: Age of Empires, Diablo II, Knights and Merchants, Heroes of Might and Magic III, Might and Magic VI and VII, The Witcher, and World of Warcraft.
But above all, I’m a sucker for a good story, whether in books, comic books, movies, or games. Anything with an engaging plot, I’m all in. Stories are incredibly powerful, not just for entertainment.
Now when I think about it, there are common threads that run through all my favorite experiences (be it a book or short novel) — some have a couple, while others have more, making them truly exceptional. For me, the key ingredients are: great story, (dark) humor, engaging puzzles, captivating art, and meaningful choices with real consequences.
And now, all these elements come together in the Koschei the Deathless board game. It draws inspiration from the ancient Slavic legends of a relentless antagonist who hides his soul to achieve immortality — well almost immortality. Yet, there’s always that one hero who, despite all odds, manages to defeat the malevolent Koschei and reclaim what was lost.
Our entire team is dedicated to ensuring that all these vital elements of a fulfilling great player experience are woven into the game. Get ready for a fantastic adventure… if all goes as planned! 🙂
